Crimson Valley Ranch Cares, Inc. is proud to
announce our approval and acceptance as one of
only two hundred professional horse trainers for
participation in the Extreme Mustang Makeover,
Yearling Competition, sponsored by the U.S.
Bureau of Land Management, the Mustang
Heritage Foundation, and the Wild Horse & Burro
Program.   On May 23, 2008, we traveled to
Elgin, Texas to pick up our beautiful wild mustang
yearling… Shelby!  We approximate that the little
filly, Shelby, is about nine months old.
The goal of the Yearling Makeover is to promote
the viability and functionality of the wild mustang
as a trainable horse; suitable for a variety of
tasks from ranch work to leisure riding, and to
help spread the word about mustang adoptions.
Wild mustangs are captured by the Bureau of
Land Management on a regular basis, (ostensibly
to maintain heard health), and the BLM is finding
it difficult to place these beautiful animals for
adoption due to longstanding myths and
prejudices against wild horses.   Without
adoption, these horses languish in captivity
without care and contact – and we are proud to
be a part of the effort to change the fate of
America’s captured wild mustangs!
We have three months to “condition” and “gentle”
little Shelby, and she’s already showing promise
and progress!  We are asking for your help;
however, to provide for her needs while we train
and prepare her for her “debut” at the Ft. Worth
Extreme Mustang Makeover Competition in
September, 2008, where she will compete
against other yearlings in condition and show in-
hand in a halter class with obstacles.
We are doing this on a voluntary basis, and it
involves daily work.  The BLM reimburses $200
of our expenses, which does not even cover the
cost of a decent water trough.  We could really
use shelter, feed, fencing, vet care, and as many
resources as we can combine for Shelby, and we
would love to have your organization listed as a
participant and sponsor in Shelby’s training and
conditioning.   Your company name/logo will be
used on Crimson Valley Ranch Cares, Inc.,
banners and promotional materials, as well as on
websites, newsletters and brochures.  Best of all,
you can count on your sponsorship to protect and
improve the fate of one of America’s most
beloved legends – the wild mustang!
Thanks, thusfar, to our wonderful contributors…..
